DO YOU HAVE CARPAL TUNNEL PAIN?
CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME IN BOYNTON BEACH
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Wrist pain leads people to visit our chiropractors at the MDR Advanced Medical Associates clinic. You might be surprised to learn that compressed nerves in the wrist result in carpal tunnel syndrome. It is just like how subluxations (misalignments) in the spine create pain and discomfort in your arms and legs.
Causes and Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bone and ligaments on the palm side of the hand. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the result of the pressure on the median nerve. When the median nerve is compressed, symptoms occur. The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome can include:
- Tingling and numbness in the fingers or hand
- Burning and swelling sensations in the fingers or hand
- Electric shock sensations in fingers
- Weakness in the hand
- Difficulty picking up items
- Dropping items from the hand
The cause of carpal tunnel syndrome varies and is not always evident. Causes can include:
- An injury or trauma to the wrist
- Certain occupations have been shown to contribute to the development of the condition. Those that involve the long-term use of vibrating instruments and repetitive hand motions may contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Metabolic disorders involving the pituitary and thyroid gland
The affected hand is often your dominant hand, however carpal tunnel syndrome can occur in either. In fact, both hands being affected is not uncommon. In addition, those who present with carpal tunnel in both hands typically have nerve irritation stemming from the spine.
Because of the anatomy of women where the carpal tunnel in the hand is narrower, women are three times more likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome.
Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Unfortunately, many healthcare practitioners will focus on the site of the pain when the source is elsewhere. This is one of the reasons that carpal tunnel surgeries are only effective about 40% of the time.
It is advised that patients pursue non-invasive and more affordable treatment first. Without the correction of nerve interference, the symptoms will likely reappear. MDR Advanced Medical Associates has had success in treating carpel tunnel syndrome through non-invasive adjustments to the bones of the wrist. In addition, cold laser therapy has brought relief as well.
After evaluating your condition, our staff creates an individual chiropractic treatment plan that best suits you. If you want more information or have questions, our Boynton Beach chiropractors are happy to supply the answers you need to make an informed decision about carpal tunnel syndrome treatment.
